SAM market worth US$23 billion - 19/06/02
The surface-to-air missile (SAM) market is expected to generate US$23 billion in revenues over the next 10 years with the production of more than 98,000 missiles, according to Forecast International's 'The Market for Surface-to-Air Missiles'. Forecast International missile analyst Larry Dickerson said: "Although the number of missiles produced annually is expected to decline, the value of the market will increase throughout most of the next decade. The leading suppliers of these missiles will be Lockheed Martin, MBDA and Raytheon." Dickerson added that Raytheon is the dominant firm with a 22% share of the market, and the addition of the land-based AMRAAM "has the potential to generate more than US$800 million in revenues for Raytheon through 2011".
