WOW! What a week. The British Open started Thursday at Garlands shooting ground. The course set by Steve Lovatt was outstanding, the mixture of targets and angles made the course very tricky and easy for any shooter to lose a large amount of clay's.
This event is possibly one of the biggest in clay shooting for the year and attracts shooters from all over the world, so competition is very tough and 100% concentration and focus is needed. Our 4 sponsored shooters at the Philip Thorrold Shooting Academy all went to compete at the British Open. Taylor Hedgecock, Aaron Harvey, Tom Mcgregor and George Townsend. Firstly we would like to say huge congratulations to Taylor Hedgecock on becoming the British Open Junior Champion 2014. Taylor has only just turned a junior and has gone straight in and taken the title. Taylor won the 2011, 2012 and 2013 British Open colts class previous to this giving Taylor 4 straight years of winning his category at the British Open!!! This is a fantastic achievement that puts Taylor in a league of his own!!!!
The next big success of the competition was Aaron Harvey, who has only been shooting for roughly 2 years. Aaron went in on day one and shot tremendously on the British Open sport trap which was a very testing 4 layouts that didn't have any 'give me' targets. Come the end of the competition Aaron was sitting in joint first and set to shoot off for the championship spot. Aaron kept concentrated throughout and shot like a real pro to take 1st place and become the new British Open junior sport trap Champion 2014!!!
And not only did Aaron win the sport trap, he went on to take 2nd place in the British Open junior sporting Championships. Aaron had a fantastic round and finished in second place behind Taylor Hedgecock. Fantastic shooting and big congratulations!!!
We also have George Townsend who competed in the British Open Colts sport trap Championship. George took on some very tough targets and kept focused throughout the 4 layouts and finished with the 1st place position. George Townsend has had a very successful year taking 1st place at the classic, winning many county championships and now winning 1st place and becoming the new British Open Colts sport trap Champion 2014.
And following Taylor and Co, we have young Tom Mcgregor who has been training hard and shooting fantastically all summer. Tom shot the British Open on Sunday and knew there was some great scores already on the board. Tom shot the round keeping concentration at all times and taking each clay as they came. By the end of the round Tom was proud to say that he took 2nd place in the Colts division making Tom Mcgregor the British Open Colts runner up 2014!
We would also like to say well done to all the other shooters from the academy who took part in the shoot and made the academy proud.
We as an academy are winning more championships and titles than any other and put this down to the teaching that is given and the dedication of all Our students that train with us.
Philip and Ben Thorrold are over the moon with the achievements that the students from the academy made at the British Open, this goes to show that with the correct training and information, champions can be made!!!!
